So today I flew from Rochester to Philadelphia to meet the rest of the group who will be serving as PCVs (Peace Corps  Volunteers).  We endured 5 hours of last minute information and training before leaving the country.  So in true “Shanelle life fashion” I had an adventure before my real adventure even began.  I got off the plane in Philly and as I went to grab for my bags, I got yelled at.  Confused, I explained that those were my bags and that I needed to take them, and much to my surprise, I was told that they were going to go all the way to my final destination.  All the way to Lesotho?  Really?  Yet I was assured that this was true.

(1hour later…)

So I’m sitting on the shuttle, en route to the hotel where I need to be in less than 30miutes to start my training and my phone starts ringing.  “Hello, Miss France?  This is Baggage Claim from US Airways.  We have your bags here at the terminal and are wondering why you have not come to pick them up yet”.  WHAT???  Just what I needed—to get my bags lost before even truly starting my trip.  I explained what I had been mistakenly told, and they agreed to hold my bags there until later.  So that was a great first impression to make with the Peace Corps trainer; “Oh hey, I’m Shanelle.  So nice to meet you.  Oh, and by the way, I don’t have any of my bags”.  It didn’t quite go like that, but in essence, that was the gist.  But long story short, I got to skip out on training for a bit so go BACK to the airport and find my bags.  I got them and life is good.
